Medical health therapist

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Medical health therapy is the integration of new practice services outside of statutory health insurance . In order to cover the range of services in medical health therapy, the advanced training measure to become a medical health therapist ( MGT ) was developed, for which Angelika Rietz in 2015 and 2016 by the professional association of German dermatologists e. V. (BVDD) was nominated for the dermatology innovation award.

The medical health therapist (MGT) takes on a key competence to relieve the doctor in derma-cosmetic and derma-aesthetic health care through further professional qualification in specialist practices, hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, old people's and nursing homes or in the outpatient area.

tasks

The area of activity of the medical health therapist (MGT) includes preventive and curative therapeutic treatment measures on the skin, hair and nails. He offers dermatologically based skin care planning and treatments for skin, hair and nail health and acts as a link between doctor and patient.

The Medical Health Therapist (MGT)

  • specializes in dermatologically based care planning and treatment
  • is the link between doctor and patient
  • is responsible for strengthening patient orientation
  • has a knowledge advantage through medical-cosmetic upgrade in the treatment processes for skin, hair and nail treatment and health
  • takes over and carries out treatment measures as prescribed by a doctor
  • carries out all aesthetic-dermatological as well as cosmetic-dermatological, pre- and post-operative treatment measures
  • detects changes in skin cancer, hyperpigmentation and other skin problems and can treat these after consultation with the doctor
  • carries out the treatments independently based on his dermatological and cosmetic knowledge in the preparative and apparatus application and their modes of action
  • provides company-neutral advice to patients / customers on skin problems that lead to cosmetic problems and / or are accompanied by cosmetic disorders, recommends individual skin care products according to the treatment plan.

The medical health therapist has successfully completed the certification of all three qualification modules “skin consultant, skin manager, skin therapist”. The spectrum is not to be equated with that of a beautician who is active in skin care and is not allowed to introduce any medical-dermatological measures into her treatment.

Benefits of the medical health therapist (MGT) compared to the beautician

The professional title of beautician is not protected, the training is not regulated uniformly. Everything that beauticians are allowed to do, all other unprotected professions such as wellness trainer, personal trainer, anti-aging consultant are allowed. Due to the general freedom of trade in this country, anyone can register a trade with a cosmetics institute. Appropriate vocational training or specialist qualifications are not a formal basic requirement. Ideally, a beautician can refer to three years of professional training in a cosmetics institute or to a cosmetics training course in a private vocational school. There are no fixed time spans here. A 6-week up to a 2-year school education is sufficient to obtain the professional title of "beautician". Only the dual 3-year training system for beauticians has been officially recognized since 2003. After successful completion, a beautician is only allowed to work on healthy skin by offering nourishing cosmetic treatments. The beautician must work with a specialist in the event of changes or disorders in the skin's appearance that are on the verge of skin diseases.

Medical assistants are subject to the training regulations for medical assistants and are nationwide aligned for three years in the dual system and are therefore state-recognized. However, the professional title of medical assistant or medical specialist is not protected in Germany.

The medical health therapist is based in the medical field. When therapy is defined as the treatment of a disease. The practitioner who carries out therapy is called a therapist . The medical health therapist takes over the medical treatments required in consultation with the doctor.

Advanced training requirement

The additional qualification as a medical health therapist (MGT) can

  • Medical Assistant (MFA)
  • Employees in medical professions, such as nurses, physiotherapists, geriatric nurses
  • People in health professions, such as alternative practitioners, medical technical assistants (MTA)
  • Take advantage of the self-employed such as podiatrists, beauticians.

Training concept

The Dr. Rietz Akademie NGP (Network for Healthy Patients) offers in-service training for all professional groups in the health sector and uses learning methods from e-learning and face-to-face teaching (webinars). MFA as well as nurses, beauticians, geriatric nurses, physiotherapists or alternative practitioners can realize their professional goals and train themselves to become certified medical health therapists (MGT).

There are three self-building educational levels to choose from:

1st level: Basic, 4-month course series with a degree: skin consultant 2nd level: Intermediate, 6-month course series with a degree: skin manager 3rd level: Advanced, 12-month course series with a degree: skin therapist

The prerequisite for certification as a medical health therapist is successful completion of modules 1–3.

The aim of each module is to convey a certain core competence to the further educator. Each learning module ends with an exam. Each participant can determine the duration of the learning process himself. The progress plans are only recommended. The advanced training is not compulsory to complete in exactly this timeframe.

The training model can be transferred to all specialist practices such as: internal medicine, neurology, trauma surgery, general medicine, ophthalmology, ENT, gynecology, urology, orthopedics, psychiatry and physiotherapy.
