Mega earth

Size comparison of the earth to the mega-earths Kepler-10c and Neptune

Mega Earth is a slang term for an extremely large extrasolar terrestrial planet . It should be noted that this is only based on the mass, but does not make any statements about the surface properties or habitability of the planet. The new category was proposed to distinguish it from the smaller and lower-mass super-earths by identifying the approximately 2.3 times Earth-sized planet Kepler-10c as a rock planet due to its approximately 17 times the Earth's mass and the resulting mean density of 7.1 ± 1, 0 g / cm³ (for comparison: earth 5.515 g / cm³). Recent work casts doubt on the high mass of this exoplanet, but other candidates for this class of planets have also been suggested.
