The Mega Top 50 are a Dutch hit parade .

They emerged in 1969 from the radio program of the public broadcasting company and are broadcast by the 3fm station. The hit list is compiled with data from single and download sales as well as airplay and streams .

history

The hit parade goes back to a show called Tijd voor Teenagers on the VARA station , which was broadcast from 1963 and already used a top 10 list. In 1965, the pirate broadcaster Radio Veronica launched a popular hit parade program called Nederlandse Top 40 . Four years later, the state broadcaster Hilversum 3 also started a chart show: The disc jockey Joost den Draaijer presented the Hilversum 3 Top 30 from May 23, 1969 . When Felix Meurders took over the show in 1971, the hit list was renamed Davender Dertig .

From 1974 the charts were also used on television in the Toppop program (1972 to 1978 and 1982 to 1986). This went hand in hand with a renaming to National Hit Parade , and the hit list was expanded to 50 and later to 100 places. From the mid-80s, the broadcasting company TROS took over the broadcast of the chart show. In 1993 the charts were given the current name Mega Top 50 , with the Mega Top 100 being determined from 1997 to 2003 .

The top 100 single emerged from the mega charts in 2004 , but these are purely sales charts, while the mega top 50 also take into account radio broadcasts from seven stations and streaming via Spotify .
