Megan Woods (* 1973 ) is a New Zealand politician with the New Zealand Labor Party . She has been a member of the New Zealand parliament since 2011 and of the Ardern cabinet since 2017 .

Life

Woods holds a PhD in New Zealand History from the University of Canterbury . From 1999 to 2007 she was a member of Jim Anderton's Progressive , after which she switched to the Labor Party.

In the 2011 general election, Woods entered the New Zealand parliament for the first time . She has been representing Wigram , a suburb of Christchurch , there since November 2011 . After the 2017 election , she was appointed Minister in the government of Jacinda Ardern on October 26, 2017 . She is responsible for energy, resources, research, science and innovation and, since June 2019, also for housing. She was also responsible for the government's response to the terrorist attack on two mosques in Christchurch .
