Mehlis gland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mehlis gland (also Mehlis gland , after Eduard Mehlis ) or shell gland is a gland in the female genital system of flatworms . The Mehlis gland surrounds the ootype , an extension of the fallopian tube , in which the fertilized egg cells are surrounded by yolk cells from the yolk and a shell. The shell is made from proteins of the yolk cells, to which lipoproteins from the Mehlis gland attach to the outside.
