Josef Rudolf Witzel
Josef Rudolf Witzel (born September 27, 1867 in Frankfurt am Main , † 1925 in Graefelfing ) was a German illustrator, caricaturist, poster artist and painter.
Life
Josef Rudolf Witzel studied painting with Edward von Steinle at the Städelschen Institute in Frankfurt and in Karlsruhe at the Grand Ducal Baden Art School with Caspar Ritter . From 1890 he worked in Munich , where he worked for the weekly newspaper Jugend , founded in 1896 . Witzel was an Art Nouveau poster artist . Witzel was also represented in the subscription to contemporary posters Les maîtres de l'affiche , published in France by Jules Chéret between 1895 and 1900 .
Witzel's work can be found in many areas of application in illustration, caricature and advertising posters. He signed with JR Witzel, Josef R. Witzel and JRW.
Witzel died in 1925.
