Les maîtres de l'affiche
Les maîtres de l'affiche ( The Masters of the Poster ) is a collection of posters published in Paris for subscribers from December 1895 to November 1900 . It was compiled by the poster artist Jules Chéret in collaboration with the printer Chaix (pronounced Schex) and collected the best advertising posters of that time. The French poster artists are represented above average, but attention was paid to internationality. A new delivery of four sheets ( lithographs ) in the format of approx. 40 × 29 cm appeared every month . The collection comprised a total of 256 lithographs, including 16 bonus sheets , i.e. original posters offered to subscribers. All posters have been numbered consecutively and bear the blind stamp of the Chaix printing company.
The 79 artists presented include Pierre Bonnard , Jules Chéret , Eugène Grasset , Alphonse Mucha , Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec , Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen , Will Bradley , Edward Penfield and many more.
