Mehtar

The title Mehtar ( Urdu : مھتار) comes from the Persian language and means "mighty one". The term was in past time for a local leader in the district of Chitral in Pakistan used.

The title Mehtar is still used today to refer to the local guide in the Chitral area. In the language of the Khowar who live near Chitral , Mehtar generally means king . The role of the Mehtar ended in 1954 and the independent state of Chitral was integrated into the state of Pakistan in 1969.

The Mehtar Empire is divided into six periods, the Persian period from 400 BC. In which Persian was spoken in Chitral. This was followed by 200 BC. The Kushan period , which was replaced by the Chinese period in the 4th century. The Kalash , who came from Afghanistan , were defeated by Shah Nadir Rais in the 11th century. The Katur from Chitral ended the Rais dynasty in 1595 by Muhtaram Shah I. In May 1947, H. H. Muzafarul Mulk declared that the state of Chitral should merge into the new state of Pakistan.
