meinVZ (abbreviation for my directory ) is an online community and, in addition to studiVZ and the schülerVZ, which was discontinued in 2013, is a project of the VZ networks . The social network was founded in February 2008 and is the third of the three VZ networks. It was developed for non-students on the basis of the studiVZ project.

history

After the founding of studiVZ and its offshoot schülerVZ, meinVZ was offered from February 28, 2008 to provide a platform for non-students who were still registered in the studiVZ. From the first day on, the studiVZ was connected to meinVZ and gave users of the student project the opportunity to switch to meinVZ without having to register again.

With studiVZ and meinVZ , two platforms were connected by an interface for the first time, so that - if individually permitted by the individual member - profiles can be accessed from both sides. There is no such connection with the schülerVZ platform for reasons of youth protection. There were also no connections between the different language platforms. According to the FAZ, meinVZ reached 3.17 million members in June 2009, but many of them are former studiVZ users who moved here after a large-scale “move” campaign. On January 20, 2009, the platforms for Spain, Italy, France and Poland were discontinued.

meinVZ is comparable to platforms such as werwissenwen or Lokalisten.de due to the non-defined profile , but has adopted the code of conduct, the changes to the general terms and conditions and the technical improvements from studiVZ.

Functions

The system is part of what is known as social software . It offers the following functions, among others:

  • The choice of a place of residence or place of origin where the user lives. The selection is not optional and is also visible when the profiles are hidden.
  • Creation of a profile with the option of providing a wide range of information (professional status, educational status, contact details, interests, hobbies, etc.).
  • Function to search for other users, also via the interests stored in profiles as well as across departments also with the offshoot studiVZ.
  • Display of connections (contacts) between members registered in the system.

Further settings, which can also be found in the offshoot studiVZ, are:

  • Formation of groups with group discussion forums, now over a million. The topics of the group can be freely selected and vary from specific problems to pure funny statements based on the name. Each member can join a certain number of groups.
  • Create photo albums and upload photos.
  • Shudder
  • Photo tagging
  • Report
  • To ignore
  • Video series "Pietshow"
  • Bush radio
  • Relocation service to studiVZ (if you want to study again)
