history

Individual institutes

The history of today's Volksbank Bad Saulgau eG is shaped by mergers and amalgamations of several small banking institutions in the years 1963 to 2003. The banks were founded between 1869 and 1925 based on the cooperative idea of Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen and Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch . A total of 37 Raiffeisen banks and Volksbanks were established during this period .

  • The oldest predecessor institute was in abundance . There, on July 13, 1869, under the leadership of Stadt schultheiß Wilhelm Baur, 131 members of the trade association founded the “Gewerbebank Mengen”. This opened in 1959 a branch in Hohentengen , 1960 a branch in Sigmaringen and in 1968 a branch in Sigmaringendorf . Quantities merged with Volksbank Ulm in 1972.
  • On March 19, 1891, citizens and farmers founded the “ Ennetach Loan Association ” on the initiative of Pastor German Maier and Mayor Franz Kieferle , which later became the “Raiffeisen Bank Ennetach”.
  • In 1901, the "Darlehnskassen association was Großtissen " founded, which later changed its name to "Raiffeisenbank Großtissen-Moosheim".
  • In 1903 the "Raiffeisenbank Bingen " was founded in Bingen .
  • The "Raiffeisenbank Laiz ", founded in the same year, merged in its history with the surrounding institutes "Spar- und Leihnskassenverein Vilsingen " (founded in 1903, merged in 1961), "Spar- und Kreditskassenverein Oberschmeien " (founded in 1921, merged in 1967) and "Spar- and Inzigkofen Loan Fund Association ”(founded in 1921, merged in 1979).
  • In 1904 the "Raiffeisenbank Hundersingen - Beuren " was founded.
  • In 1905 the "Raiffeisenbank Herbertingen " was founded, in 1968 it merged with the "Spar- und Kreditskasse Marbach " founded in 1907 to form the "Raiffeisenbank Herbertingen-Marbach".
  • The "Hohentenger Bank eGmbH" was created in 1963 from the merger of the "Loan Fund Association Beizkofen ", a foundation from 1905, with the "Spar- und Kreditskassenverein Völlkofen " founded in 1902 and the "Savings and Loan Fund Association Ölkofen ". In 1973 the bank opened a branch in Pfullendorf. In 1981 it merged with the “Savings and Loan Fund Günzkofen - Eichen - Friedberg ”. This in turn emerged from the three institutes “Loan Fund Association Günzkofen-Eichen” (founded in 1920, merger in 1963), “Spar- und Kreditskasse Ursendorf ” (founded in 1920, merged in 1975) and “Loan Fund Association Friedberg” (founded in 1924, merged in 1963).
  • The “Raiffeisenbank Mengen- Scheer ” was founded in 1908 as the “Spar- und Autovermietung Scheer”. The “Ölkofen Loan Fund Association”, which came into being relatively late in 1924, merged with Scheer just three years after it was founded in 1927. In 1977 the "Raiffeisenbank Rulfingen " and "Raiffeisenbank Blochingen ", each founded in 1905, were added. The "Raiffeisenbank Ennetach" merged in 1982 with the Scheerer parent company.
  • In 1912 the "Raiffeisenbank Inneringen" was established in Inneringen .
  • The "Raiffeisenbank Krauchenwies", which was only founded in Krauchenwies in 1921, succeeded in merging in 1968 with the "Spar- und Kreditskasse Hausen ", founded in 1903, and in 1970 with the "Spar- und Kreditskasse Ablach ", founded in 1921.
  • The "Raiffeisenbank Sigmaringendorf " was established in 1921. For the first few years it was housed in the computer's private apartment on Baumgartenweg. In 1937 the bank rented a room on Bahnhofsstraße from Anton Fischer and in 1967 from Felix Frick on Laucherthaler Straße. After the purchase and demolition of the Remensperger agricultural property, the company moved to its own newly built premises for the first time in 1975.
  • As the last cooperative institute, the “Commercial and Agricultural Bank Ostrach ” was created in 1925 by taking over the “Bankcommandite Pfäffle”. This formed the basis for the later “Volksbank Ostrach”. It merged first in 1964 with the "Spar- und Kreditskasse Jettkofen " founded in 1903 and in 1967 with the "Spar- und Kreditskasse Levertsweiler - Rosna - Habsthal " established in 1919 . In 1970 the "Spar- und Kreditskasse Riedhausen ", which was founded in 1908, was added. Two years earlier, in 1968, Riedhausen was joined by the “Savings and Loan Fund Waldhausen ” that was established in 1925 . Also in 1970, the "Spar- und Kreditskasse Königseggwald " founded in 1898 came to Ostrach. The Ostrach parent company recorded two more mergers in its history. In 1976, the "Spar- und Kreditskasse Hoßkirch " (founded in 1906) and in 1978 the "Raiffeisen-Warengenossenschaft Burgweiler " (founded in 1909) were added.

Bad Saulgau headquarters

On May 12th, 1871, 42 citizens and traders in Saulgau founded the "Saulgau Advance Association" as a registered cooperative with unlimited liability. This event was announced to the public on June 6, 1871 in the Saulgau daily newspaper "Oberländer". Josef Hoch becomes the first director. In 1920 the legal form was changed; henceforth the bank was called "Gewerbebank Saulgau eGmbH". In 1921, the first branch was opened in Aulendorf and the banking operations in Saulgau were relocated to the bank building bought especially for this at the corner of Hauptstrasse and Poststrasse.

The bank underwent a major change in 1940 when it changed its name to “Volksbank Saulgau eGmbH”. In 1958, the economic upswing made it necessary to modernize and develop the bank building at the Saulgau headquarters. The branch was opened in Mochenwangen in 1960 and in Herbertingen in 1961 . In May 1967 the Aulendorfer branch moves into the building at Hauptstrasse 63. In 1971 the new bank building in Mochenwangen is occupied.

In 1973 the Volksbank Saulgau merged with the "Raiffeisenbank Herbertingen-Marbach". In 1974 the city branch opened in Gerhart-Hauptmann-Strasse and in March 1977 business operations began in the new bank building at the current location at the corner of Hauptstrasse and Friedrichstrasse in Saulgau. In the same year the Volksbank Saulgau merged with the "Raiffeisenbank Hundersingen-Beuren". In July 1981 the “Raiffeisenbank Großtissen-Moosheim” and the “Raiffeisenbank Inneringen” merged with the Volksbank Saulgau. Volksbank Saulgau was the first cooperative bank in Upper Swabia to put an ATM in its main office into operation. In July the merger with the “Raiffeisenbank Bingen” took place. The bank extension in Saulgau will be completed in autumn. In 1988 Volksbank Saulgau merged with “Raiffeisenbank Laiz” around their branches Inzigkofen, Vilsingen and Oberschmeien in the Sigmaringen area. In 1991 more than 10,000 members were recorded for the first time.

When the "Volksbank Ostrach" merged with all of its branches in November 1994, Volksbank Saulgau gained a great deal of territory. The business volume thus exceeds the billion DM mark.

In August 1997 there was a major merger with the “Hohentenger Bank”, the number of members of Volksbank Saulgau suddenly increased by 6,500. In autumn 1997 the bank was represented on the Internet for the first time at “http://www.voba-saulgau.de” and the path to becoming a direct bank was paved. In January 1998 the new representative bank building in Aulendorf was completed and moved into.

After the members of "Raiffeisenbank Mengen-Scheer" and "Raiffeisenbank Krauchenwies" each had a very large majority approved a merger, in 1999 both banks merged with Volksbank Saulgau. A year later, the members of the “Raiffeisenbank Sigmaringendorf” decided to take the same step. In 2000, when the city of Bad Saulgau was given the title “Bad”, the bank changed its name to “Volksbank Bad Saulgau”.

The most recent expansion of the business area was on January 1, 2003, when the Volksbank Bad Saulgau was transferred from the Ulmer Volksbank to Volksbank Bad Saulgau through a defusion . In November 2004, after renovation, the advice center in Sigmaringen was reopened. In 2005 the advice centers in Bad Saulgau and Mengen followed and in 2006 in Aulendorf and Ostrach after a thorough renovation and modernization.

From 2010 to 2013 the main office in Bad Saulgau was expanded and revitalized. This was rebuilt according to modern energy standards.

The bank is one of the largest Volksbanks in Baden-Württemberg.
