history

Levertsweiler on a map with the "Description of the Eastern Eastern District" from 1697

The place was first mentioned in 1228 as Laiffinswilar . On the castle, which was abandoned near the village - in 1845 walls and moats were still to be seen, the noble lords of Leiterberg resided, who appear for the first time in 1253 (de Laiterberc). Ortolf de Laifinswiler , named in 1267, is probably identical to the eponymous Herr von Leiterberg, who sold his property, including the bailiwick and church set, to the Salem monastery in 1277 . The castle passed from his brother Burkhard to the Lords of Königsegg and was also sold to the Salem Monastery in 1294. The high judiciary was exercised by the county of Sigmaringen early on, first verifiable with the umbrella letter from 1324 . The local rule probably came to Salem with the manor and castle, and the monastery was able to maintain it in the 15th century . From then on, the village was part of the Ostrach Monastery Office, after 1611 it was subject to high monastic jurisdiction. 1803 with Ostrach an Thurn und Taxis , 1806 sovereignty of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen .

In the course of the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg , Levertsweiler was incorporated into Ostrach on October 1, 1974.
