history

Around 1100 and 1250 the noble family (originally noble free?) Was mentioned by Werneswilare . In 1250 Count Konrad von Veringen bought properties in Wirnsweiler, the so-called "Colengut" and "Albert Waibelsguet" from Konrad Grämlich von Pfullendorf. The field names “Birkholz” and “Birkweiler” probably indicate that the castle has been lost . In the Austria-Habsburg land register of 1303 the place is called Wernswil . There is also the writing form Wirenschweiler , Wirnschweiler . and Wernzwiler .

The demarcation between Baden, Hohenzollern and Württemberg near Ostrach

The high and low jurisdiction lay with the Grafschaft Friedberg . By a contract of 1708, the county surrendered forest rights and the property around Wirnsweiler to the Salmannsweiler monastery and its Ostrach office , but retained jurisdiction over Wirnsweiler, making the place an island location. In 1785 the county was sold to the Princes of Thurn and Taxis . The Ostrach office was added to these by the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss - in 1803 the Ostrach office became princely Thurn and Taxisches Rentamt, but in 1806 their property was divided: Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen received Ostrach, Württemberg the rest of the property located in Upper Swabia. Wirnsweiler thus became the Württemberg enclave in Hohenzollern.

Wirnsweiler belonged to the Friedberg community until December 31, 1974 and only came to the city of Saulgau on January 1, 1975 . As part of the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg , the hamlet was separated from the city of Saulgau and then reclassified to the surrounding community of Ostrach on January 1, 1978.
