Bernweiler is a suburb of Weithart , one of eight localities in the Baden-Württemberg community of Ostrach in the Sigmaringen district .

geography

Geographical location

The suburb of Bernweiler is located in the Ostrach valley around four and a half kilometers northwest of the center of Ostrach between the other suburbs of Eimühle in the north, Levertsweiler in the west and Einhart in the northeast and the village of Wangen in the south.

history

Map from 1807: " Grudriß on the gracious manorial Weyher zu Bernweiler "

In 1262 the area around Bernweiler on the former Roman road from Altshausen to Krauchenwies was owned by the Salem monastery . In 1266 a farm moved, in 1420 the whole hamlet was transferred to Habsthal Abbey . Later the rule "Habsthal - Bernweiler - Rosna " was formed.

In 1500 the Störenbach flowing here was dammed into the Habsthal fish pond , which was later also used for a sawmill. After this was drained for the last time in 1840, the new boundary between Habsthal and Einhart was drawn: the goods on the right of the Störenbach now belonged to Einhart, the goods on the left to Habsthal.

In 1806 all properties and possessions came to the princely house of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen .

On January 11, 1931, Bernweiler received electrical light and power , and in the same year a post office with a telephone. In 1950 a water pipe was laid, and in 1967 new local lighting was installed.

In the course of the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg , the municipality of Habsthal and Bernweiler were incorporated into Ostrach on October 1, 1974.

Place name

The name is said to refer to the person of Bero (also Pero ), who was mentioned in this area and in Linzgau in the 9th century. Another interpretation is the naming after the animal, the bear .

Spellings: Bernwilaer (1262), Bernwilar (1263), Bärenweiler (1266), Bernwils (1303), Berenwiler (1353), Bernwyler (1497) and Bernnweiler in 1500.
