Master of craterography
A copper engraver and image cutter is called a master of craterography , who created finely etched templates for a rich decoration of trophies in Nuremberg around 1551 , the Handbuch Kraterographie . According to the title of the work, which is formed from the Greek word for cup crater , the master, whose name is not known for certain, was given his emergency name .
Because of the close style of the master of craterography , it is assumed that he may have been the stone cutter, copperplate engraver and sculptor Mathis Zündt (1498–1572) who worked in Nuremberg , an opinion that seems to be generally recognized today in art history.
