The Madonna of Michle ( Czech Michelská madona ) is the figure of a Madonna from the Church of Our Lady in Michle near Prague . The by name unknown master of the Madonna of Michle worked in Bohemia in the 14th century in the vicinity of the Prague court. The figure made of pear wood was created around 1330. It is one of the first surviving examples of how, with the beginning of the rule of Emperor Charles IV and his promotion of art in Prague, the influence of northern Italian sculpture and especially French art from Paris and Avignon and further from the Middle Rhine to Prague came. At the very beginning of the emperor's reign, the first Gothic Madonna figures were created in Bohemia.

The Madonna of Michle is now in the possession of the National Gallery in Prague . According to experts, the statue of the Madonna on the Lion to be found there is also one of the works of the master of the Madonna of Michle.

The figure of the Madonna von Michle is at the beginning of the development of Bohemian sculpture. With it and the style grouped around it, the development of a local art into a typically Bohemian soft style begins . The figure can be seen as an important work and starting point for such independent local art and later also a significant development under Charles IV for art in Europe. At this time, an international style of sculpture was developing in Prague, which , for example, the master von Hohenfurth also introduced in painting. After that, Bohemian innovations in art became one of the prerequisites for German sculpture in the early 15th century. The Madonna von Michle is an example of the transfer of ideas and culture in the Gothic.
