Master of the Perchauer Maria

As a master of Perchauer Maria one is Gothic carver called that in 1430 in Styria in Judenburg or in Neumarkt worked.

The artist, who is not known by name, got his emergency name after a figure of Mary he created . This wooden figure comes from the parish church in Perchau in Styria and depicts Mary as the queen of heaven. The figure is now in the Diocesan Museum in Graz . The figure is assigned to the Soft Style , the style of late Gothic sculpture, in which standing Madonna sculptures are also called "Beautiful Madonnas". The style of the master shows a relationship with the Salzburg sculpture of his epoch. Other works in the region are said to come from the master, including a “Beautiful Madonna” on a side altar in St. Peter's Church in St. Lambrecht's Abbey .
