Master of the Altar by Geyer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The master of the altar by Geyer is a picture carver from the late 15th century. His work is an example of religious art in Saxony the late Gothic period .

Life

It is possible that the master of the altar by Geyer is more precisely located in Freiberg and the surrounding area around 1490 , at that time a center of carving in Saxony. The master, who is not known by name, received his emergency name from his carvings for an altar in the St. Laurentius Church in Geyer . The master's work and style as well as artistic skill show that Saxon carvers also processed suggestions from neighboring cultural landscapes.
