Franklin Davis Robinson (born January 1930 in Carbonado in the US - State of Washington ) is the founder and owner of the Robinson Helicopter Company.

Life

Frank Robinson was born in 1930 as the youngest of four children. After completing his training at college and graduating from the University of Washington and subsequent thesis in aerospace engineering at Wichita State University, he began his career at the Cessna Aircraft Company in 1957 , where he worked on the development of the CH-1, among other things Skyhook helicopter. Over the next few years, he was still with Umbaugh Aircraft , the McCulloch Aircraft Corporation (collaboration in design at affordable helicopters studies) at Kaman followed by two years in the research and development department at Bell Helicopter where he earned a reputation as a tail rotor - expert made . In 1969 he started working at Hughes Helicopters in the research and development department, where he worked on the tail rotor development for the Hughes OH-6 . The Hughes OH-6 had tail rotor problems that became known as the Hughes Tail Spin . Frank Robinson was able to solve this problem successfully.

He tried to make his former employers aware of the concept of a small, inexpensive helicopter, but did not succeed. He then founded the Robinson Helicopter Company in 1973 . Frank Robinson is an experienced helicopter and airplane pilot himself .

On August 10, 2010, Frank Robinson announced in a press release that he was stepping down as president and chairman and retiring from the company. The functions of chairman and president were taken over by his son Kurt Robinson .

Frank Robinson was married to Barbara L. Krauss (* 1955) for the second time since 1983. Barbara was a helicopter pilot herself and has been with Robinson Helicopter since 1978. She died of breast cancer on August 13, 2009 . Frank and Barbara Robinson have two children, Mark (* 1986) and Cindy (* 1988).
