history

The company was founded in 1973 in California by Franklin Davis Robinson and is privately owned. The annual production rate in 2008 was 823 pieces, of which around 65% are exported. In 2009, 300 employees were laid off due to the financial crisis and the production rate halved.

Frank Robinson announced in a press release on August 10, 2010 that he was stepping down as President and Chairman of Robinson Helicopter and retiring from the company. The functions of chairman and president were taken over by his son Kurt Robinson . On December 23, 2016, the company delivered its 12,000 helicopter to a South African dealer with an R66 (S / N 0763). According to statistics from the United States Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), Robinson Helicopter has produced more helicopters since the early 1980s than all US helicopter manufacturers combined.
