Godfrey Lowell Cabot
Godfrey Lowell Cabot (born February 26, 1861 in Boston , † November 2, 1962 ) was an American entrepreneur.
Life
His parents were Hannah Lowell Jackson and Samuel Cabot III , a doctor. Mother Lowell's family are of the Brahmins of Boston . Godfrey Lowell Cabot founded Godfrey L. Cabot, Inc. in 1882, which in 1890 had the fourth highest carbon black production capacity in the United States.
The Godfrey L. Cabot, Inc. held extensive land ownership partly with oil and gas reserves and other mineral resources, a pipeline of 1600 km in length. The global company had seven branches with three natural gas refineries and its own research and development department.
In the 1930s he sponsored solar research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . This was used to research photovoltaics , thermoelectricity and solar houses. He supported the Maria Moors Cabot Foundation for Botanical Research with USD 615,773 , praised the Maria Moors Cabot Prize for Journalism , which is awarded annually by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism , and endowed professorships.
The Godfrey Lowell Cabot Science Library at the Science Center at Harvard University was named after him. Godfrey Lowell Cabot graduated in 1882. He became a member of the Watch and Ward Society and directed it in the 1920s and 1930s. Society shaped the cultural life in Boston.
