Kaman Aerospace Corporation is the helicopter division of Kaman. Founded in 1945 by the company's founder at the age of 26 in the garage of his mother's house in West Hartford, he also laid the foundation for today's Kaman Corporation .

In 1951, Kaman launched the K-225, the first helicopter equipped with a gas turbine . Another model from Kaman is the K-Max, which is particularly suitable for transporting loads. Like most of the Kaman models, both types have the special feature of intermeshing rotors , the Flettner double rotor . A tail rotor is thus superfluous without the disadvantages of a coaxial rotor and tandem configuration . The concept can be traced back to Anton Flettner , who worked as chief designer at Kaman from 1947 to 1958. The SH-2 Seasprite is a ship-based helicopter for anti-submarine defense .

Today Kaman is the only manufacturer of a helicopter with a Flettner double rotor.

Types

The following types of helicopters were developed and produced by the company:

Only the K-20 Seasprite and the K-1200 K-MAX are currently being manufactured in modernized versions.

Kaman Industrial Technologies

All parts of the company for the development and manufacture of industrial components are combined in this division. The company manufactures, among other things, the cockpit of the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk, parts of the Boeing C-17 and Boeing 777 as well as electric motors and small parts.

Kaman Music

The Kaman Music Corporation , which also founded by Kaman 1966 company Ovation belonged was, until December 2007, the largest retailer of musical instruments and accessories in the US market. For five months, beginning in June 2007, Kaman negotiated the acquisition with Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC). On October 29, 2007, FMIC announced the acquisition and the purchase price of US $ 117 million.
