Kamow ( Russian Фирма Камов / Firma Kamow , English Kamov Company ) was founded in 1948, was initially a Soviet OKB ( experimental design office ) and is now a Russian helicopter manufacturer.

history

The company was founded in 1948 as an experimental design office (OKB). The company is named after Nikolai Ilyich Kamow , the former chief designer. Since 1992 it has been trading as JSC Kamov (Joint Stock Company, Russian stock corporation). It continues to develop and manufacture civil, military and special helicopters.

The special feature of the Kamow helicopters (with the exception of the Ka-60 ) is their coaxial system of counter-rotating double rotors . This

  • make a moment compensation at the stern superfluous,
  • reduce the risk of injury to maintenance personnel or bystanders and
  • avoid the loss of power when driving the tail rotor.

The disadvantage of this design is the higher maintenance effort on the rotor head , in which the upper swash plate has to be controlled by the lower one.
