The Kamow Ka-60 Kasatka ( Russian Камов Ка-60 Касатка , German Orca (killer whale) ) is a multipurpose helicopter for service in the armed forces of Russia.

construction

With this helicopter, Kamow deviated from its usual design of coaxial double rotors . Instead, the Kamow Ka-60 follows the conventional design of helicopter construction with a main and a Fenestron rear rotor for torque compensation. In order to save weight and reduce the radar signature, composite materials were used in the manufacture, which make up 60% of its weight. In addition, the surface is provided with a radar-absorbing coating. The helicopter's equipment is installed redundantly , a failed engine is automatically compensated by the other.

Production and use

The Kamow Ka-60 is intended as a replacement model for the Mil Mi-8 . The helicopter will take over the transport of troops, weapons and ammunition and perform reconnaissance and target marking functions. In addition, it is also intended as a rescue helicopter for the transport of the wounded. Construction is to take place at VPK / MAPO near Moscow and in Ulan-Ude . With the Kamow Ka-62 , a civil variant of the helicopter was developed, which flew for the first time on April 28, 2016. The exact future seems unclear, however, since the Mi-38 is also planned as the successor to the Mi-8/17.
