The Kamow Ka-18 ( Russian Камов Ка-18 , NATO code name : Hog ) is a Soviet four-seat multipurpose helicopter . It was developed by the Russian coaxial rotor pioneer Nikolai Ilyich Kamow from the two-seater Kamow Ka-15 . The Ka-18's maiden flight took place on October 13, 1956.

development

The coaxial rotor and engine were taken over unchanged from the Ka-15 . The cabin has been extended to accommodate four people. In return, the Ka-18 received a new, stepped bow. The cockpit had radio, blind flight and navigation equipment so that it could be used in any weather, day and night.

It also had a de-icing device. The landing gear could be exchanged for inflatable pontoons, with which one could land and take off on water or in the swamp.

The Ka-18 was used in various roles at Aeroflot , including for aerial surveying , as an air taxi and as a medical helicopter. The Soviet naval forces also used the Ka-18.

Between 1959 and 1961 a total of 111 Ka-18s were built in Ulan-Ude near Kamow .
