The Kamow Ka-29 ( Russian Камов Ка-29 , NATO code name Helix-B ) is a variant of the Russian combat zone transport helicopter Kamow Ka-27 . It is an armed version for maritime airborne operations . Its main task is the dropping of marines in the combat zone and their support as air artillery.

development

After comparative tests against the Mi-24M, the Ka-29 won a tender from naval aviators in 1973 for a new combat zone transport helicopter that was to be used from landing craft and aircraft carriers. The development of the Ka-27 was carried out under strict secrecy, so that the first flight could take place in 1976. However, it was not until 1984 that the troops could be introduced. The main focus was on the armored cabin and the use of ships in all weathers. This means that the Ka-29 can operate safely even in gusts of wind of 20 m / s, seas of strength 5 and extreme temperatures from −50 ° C to +60 ° C. A rescue winch can optionally be installed on the rear door. The cabin holds 16 marines or 10 people for SAR operations. A target system is available for the use of weapons with which the anti-tank guided weapons can be controlled.
