Kamow Ka-50-2

The Ka-50-2 is a non-series attack helicopter made by the Russian manufacturer Kamow . This model is a two-seater further development of the Ka-50 . In contrast to the two-seater Ka-52 , which is also based on the Ka-50 , the two seats are built in tandem here one behind the other.

The Ka-50-2 was developed in the 1990s by Kamow in cooperation with the Israeli aerospace company IAI for participation in a tender by the Turkish government.

The basic structure and performance data of the Ka-50-2 are almost identical to those of the Ka-50 and the Ka-52, which is also based on this type. All three machines have a retractable undercarriage . The Ka-50-2 also has the coaxial rotor system typical of Kamow helicopters , which consists of two main rotors arranged one above the other, which rotate in opposite directions and achieve a torque compensation so that a tail rotor can be dispensed with.

An outstanding feature that the Ka-50-2 shares with its sister models Ka-50 and Ka-52 is the rescue system, which is unusual for helicopters. The model has ejector seats with which the crew can catapult themselves out of the aircraft in an emergency. To avoid contact with the rotors, their blades are blown off when the ejector seats are triggered.

The main characteristics of the Ka-50-2 are avionics and armament. The machine has an EFIS from IAI and a 30-mm cannon housed in a side turret instead of the rigid on-board gun of the Ka-50.
