Master of Fossa

A painter in Italy in the 14th century is referred to as the Master of Fossa ( it. 'Maestro di Fossa'). The artist, who is not known by name, is named after his panel paintings from the church of Santa Maria ad Cryptas in Fossa in Abruzzo. The master belongs to the Umbrian school and is considered one of the most important painters of his time in this region. His paintings from Fossa can be found today in the Museo nazionale d'Abruzzo in L'Aquila . Several other pictures are attributed to the master as well as a fresco of the Archangel Michael in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Spello .
