Melanie Franke

Melanie Franke (* 1974 in Minden ) is a German art historian . She teaches as a professor for art and cultural studies in Basel .

Live and act

Franke studied art history, Romance studies and fine arts as a double degree in Berlin, Paris and London as a scholarship holder of the Studienwerk Villigst. As a scholarship holder of the German Research Foundation, she did her doctorate in 2005 in the graduate school at the Berlin University of the Arts with a thesis on Robert Morris and Anti-Form (1966–69) . Franke then volunteered at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Neue Nationalgalerie and Hamburger Bahnhof).

After a postdoc position at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg, a research position at the Technical University of Berlin followed. In 2008 Franke went to Zurich and initially headed the research department of the Swiss Institute for Art Research before she was appointed professor for art and cultural studies at the University of Art and Design in Basel . As a visiting professor she worked at various institutions in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (2011–2012).
