Membrane
Membrure was a French measure of firewood . The cordwood, from a la membrure, a frame, was a log of poles between 5 and 17 inches thick. Thicker wood, i.e. with a thickness equal to / greater than 18 inches, was the bois de moule. The fathom was then
- 1 membrane = 4 Parisian feet in length and height
A Voie, the load, was the "amount" of a fathom measure. Two voies made a cord or fathom .
