The menhir of Bad Säckingen is a prehistoric menhir in Bad Säckingen in the district of Waldshut in Baden-Württemberg . It was discovered in 1956 and raised again.
location
The stone is located on the western outskirts of Bad Säckingen on the forest cemetery . It was on the edge of a Neolithic settlement, where it was discovered in the thick undergrowth in 1956. He was later raised at the site.
description
The menhir is made of granite , which is not found in the vicinity. It is compact and has a square cross-section with slightly rounded edges. It tapers upwards and ends in a blunt surface. The stone has a height of 107 cm, a width of 70 cm and a thickness of 40 cm; it is 43 cm deep in the earth. The surface of the stone was exposed to running water for a long time; Furthermore, a crack is visible, which is probably more recent.
