Menhir by Buryas Bridge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Buryas Bridge Menhir is located in a field, southwest of the hamlet of Buryas Bridge and southwest of Penzance in Cornwall in England .

BW

The approximately three meter long menhir is located near its original location, as former packing stones can be clearly seen around a flat setting. The stone was damaged. One side appears natural, the other has been hammered and a series of holes drilled to blow up the stone. There is no indication of how timely these activities are.

The stone is recorded on the OS First Edition map from 1887, a second stone was in the adjacent field and a third two fields south. At the time of the Second Edition map in 1909, only this stone was left. It was later noted in the 1936 and 1938 revisions and in the 1: 10000 series, but not on modern maps.
