The menhir of Tojal , which Manuel Calado found lying during archaeological prospecting and excavated or erected in 2000, stands west of Santiago do Escoural, south of the road to São Cristóvão and south of Montemor-o-Novo , in the Évora district , in Alentejo in Portugal .

The barrel-shaped menhirs ( Pedras talhas in Portuguese ) are typical of the region. It is about 2.35 m long and has a maximum diameter of about 1.0 m. Since the hollow of its stand was discovered, it was set up in its original position. The menhir has a row of bowls on one side , a decoration that is quite common for menhirs.
