Menhirs from High Park

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The menhirs of High Park (also Highpark Irish Ard an Ghoirt ) are in the Townland Highpark, at Caherconlish ( Irish Cathair Chinn Lis ) in southeast Limerick in County Limerick in Ireland . A menhir of the same name stands at Campbeltown in Scotland .

High Park 1

The place on the summit of Knockfleming is listed in the National Monument Inventory as a possible stone circle and on the OS maps as a menhir ( English standing stone ). The stone is 2.7 m high, a good 2.4 m wide and 0.9 m thick. It appears to have a northeast-southwest orientation, tapers at the top and has a concentration of iron ore especially on its south side.

High Park 2

100 meters east of High Park 1, which cannot be seen due to the height of the row of hedges, the menhir, also known as Legaun or Liagan Stone, is located 20 m from Highpark Street, near two more. It is about 2.5 m high and only covered with moss at the recessed tip of the south side, as the rest was rubbed off by the cattle.

High Park 3

This slim menhir stands in sight of High Park 2 in an adjacent field to High Park 4. It stands 1.1 m high, 0.24 m wide and 0.20 m thick and has a different shape than stones 1 and 2.

High Park 4

The triangular thin menhir is visible from High Park 2 in an adjacent field to High Park 3. It is 1.1 m high and wide and only 0.3 m deep. There seems to be a connection between the stones in sight of each other.
