Menke nitriding

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In chemistry, Menke nitration is a nitration reaction of an aromatic (R = H, alkyl, OH, NH 2 etc.) with copper (II) nitrate [(Cu (NO 3 ) 2 ] and acetic anhydride (Ac 2 O). A nitro group (NO 2 ) is preferably introduced in the ortho position to the electron donor on the aromatic compound. The reaction is named after its discoverer, the Dutch chemist Jean Baptiste Menke (1887–1955).

Frameless

The particularly high ortho selectivity of the Menke nitration is remarkable .
