Remarks

The waltz was composed for a promenade concert in Vienna's Volksgarten and premiered there in front of an audience of three thousand. Strauss kept the work in the style of his late father . The motto for both music and decoration was the migration into the ocean of fire . Hence the name, whereby the ocean of fire is equated with hell. At the premiere, the waltz had to be repeated three times. Even after that it found its permanent place in concert programs to this day.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 8 minutes and 10 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
