According to unconfirmed sources, Mercherdach is said to have been in Regensburg as early as 1054, where he met his compatriot Marianus Scottus in the 1070s . He and Marianus have become close friends, and Marianus has consulted him several times, as reported in Marianus' vita. Mercherdach was enclosed as an inclusion in a small cell attached to the church. He received food through a small window, which, as usual with inclusions, probably consisted mainly of bread and water. He died after 1074/1075. A Mercherdachs tombstone - albeit from a later time - has been preserved, as well as a building called Mercherdachkapelle near Obermünster, which was built at the location of the cell.
