Meri ( Hebrew מר״י, lit. Rebellion , acronym for Mechaneji Radikali Jisraeli ( Hebrew מחנה רדיקלי ישראלי), lit. Radical Camp of Israel ) was a party in Israel .

history

The party was founded in the 1960s as HaOlam haZeh - Koach Chadash by Uri Avnery , editor of the Israeli news and entertainment magazine of the same name, and was the first radical party in Israel.

The party was more left-wing and narrowly overcame the threshold clause in the 1965 elections with 1.2% and acquired a seat in the Knesset, which was taken by Anvery himself.

In the 1969 elections, the party won two seats. The second seat went to journalist Shalom Cohen .

Disagreements between Avnery and Cohen caused the party to break on January 4, 1972. Cohen remained as an independent MP in the Knesset . Avnery renamed the party to Meri on July 3, 1973 and lost the 1973 election. In the 1977 elections, the party was moked .
