Merihaka ( Swedish Havshagen) is an area of the Finnish capital Helsinki with 2300 inhabitants. It is located northeast of the center and administratively belongs to the Sörnäinen district .

Merihaka was built in the 1970s on the site of a demolished port and industrial site. It consists of brutalist prefabricated buildings that differ significantly from the largely Art Nouveau architecture of the neighboring areas. The roads and parking lots were covered with a concrete cover intended for pedestrian traffic, similar to the one in Itä-Pasila .

Merihaka is considered by many to be one of the ugliest areas in Helsinki. However, this does not detract from its popularity as a residential area, because in addition to the location close to the center, the excellent view that opens up from the upper floors of the houses is particularly attractive.

The most prominent resident of Merihaka was the former Finnish Prime Minister Kalevi Sorsa .
