Merire (artist)

Merire was an ancient Egyptian artist who worked in the 20th Dynasty under King Ramses IX. worked. He is known from the grave of Setau in Elkab , which he decorated. Merire was titled priest (wab), scribe of the word of God and scribe of the altar in the house of Khnum and Nebetuu of Esna .

Merire appears in three places in the tomb of Setau. On the east wall he is shown in the base zone and reports in a short text that he built the grave for Setau in the fourth year of the reign of Ramses IX. has decorated. On the south wall he is shown again in the base zone. It sits on a chair and holds a pens' palette and a rush for writing and painting. The text reports: he made these drawings with his own hands . Finally, he is briefly mentioned again on the north face by name and title.
