The Merlin Saga (in the English original The Lost Years Of Merlin epic ) is a book series by Thomas A. Barron consisting of five volumes ("quintology"):

  • The Lost Years of Merlin (1996) - German Merlin - How it all began , 1999, Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag, Munich
  • The Seven Songs of Merlin (1997) - German Merlin and the seven steps to wisdom , 2000, Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag, Munich
  • The Fires of Merlin (1998) - German Merlin and the fire tests , 2000, Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag, Munich

  • The Wings of Merlin (2000) - German Merlin and the wings of freedom , 2002, Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag, Munich

In the five volumes the author describes the "lost years" of Merlin , that is, the years before he appeared in the legends of King Arthur , the round table and the search for the Holy Grail as a magician and mentor to the young British heir to the throne.

The saga describes the magician's career and his youth on Fincayra , a mythical island that lies somewhere between our world and the other world (the realm of the dead). The author reports in detail about Merlin's first contact with magic, but also about his character traits and describes how the young hot spur matures through many trials, adventures and the first love for an adult, deliberately acting man. The text is strongly fixated on Merlin's thinking and acting through the first-person perspective.
