Topography of Cyprus

The Mesaoria , Greek Μεσαορία ( "between the hills"), Turkish Mesarya Ovasi , is a fertile alluvial - plain on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus .

After its formation about a hundred million years ago, Cyprus consisted of two limestone islands . For a period of about seventy million years, Cyprus was separated by a strip of sea. This was closed by volcanic eruptions and the Troodos Mountains were formed.

The mesaoria was formed by erosion of the soft volcanic rock.
