Acromelia

Acromelia , mesomelia and rhizomelia denote congenital shortening of an extremity . They are forms of dysmelia .
- Acromelia describes the shortening of the distal parts (fingers or toes) in particular ,
- Mesomelia the shortening of the middle parts, i.e. forearms or lower legs and
- Rhizomelia the shortening of the proximal parts, i.e. upper arms or thighs.
- In contrast to mesomelia, hemimelia also describes the very frequent additional changes distal on the hand or foot.

The words are derived from the ancient Greek μέλος mélos 'limb' as well
- ἄκρος ákros 'at the end'
- μέσος mésos 'in the middle'
- ῥίζωμα rhizome , root, origin '.
