Measuring tone

A measurement tone is a continuous sine tone for testing sound quality and purity. It is often used in test images . Ä. used. The most common measurement tones have a frequency of 440, 800 or 1000 Hz (Hertz).

The level tone is a measurement tone which is used to check the level relationships of transmission links or magnetic tape recordings.

Emission of measurement tones

Up until the beginning of the 1990s, radio transmitters (especially in the LMK area) regularly sent measurement tones at certain times. Measurement tones were also often broadcast before a transmitter was restarted. Today this is no longer necessary due to advanced technology.
