Metal Fabricators of Zambia (ZAMEFA) is a public company in Luanshya and was founded in 1967 and brings together various companies in the copper processing industry. Before privatization in 1996, this holding company worked for Industrial Development Corporation Limited (INDECO Ltd.) .

The company produces copper bars, cables and wires. It is the only supplier of such products in Zambia. The copper bars are intended for export and for our own production. The export of cables and wires is to be expanded. 70 percent of production is exported. Aluminum is also processed in smaller quantities. Export markets are Kenya , Mozambique , Tanzania , Malawi , Botswana , Nigeria and some Asian countries.

Eighty-two percent of ZAMEFA's shares were acquired by Phelps Dodge , a major US copper mining and cable manufacturer, and Bikana International Limited , a Zambian investment firm. 18 percent of the shares remained with Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines Investment Holdings and thus state-owned. US dollars 7.5 million were invested in order to expand production in 2006 by processing 40,000 t of copper.

The company is struggling to get copper on the local market. Konkola Copper Mines charges prices from the London Metal Exchange, while the smaller Mopani Copper Mines only charges the local price. The former state-owned companies are trying to lie on each other's pockets after privatization.
