Equatorial plate

The equatorial plate or metaphase plate describes a special arrangement of chromosomes during the mitotic and meiotic metaphase of cell division in living things with cell nuclei, the eukaryotes . The chromatids are arranged within a plane along the center of the dividing cell and thus form the metaphase plate; the chromosomes and microtubules of the spindle fibers are aligned perpendicular to the equatorial plate.
