Meteocat

The Catalan Meteorological Service Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (SMC), also known as Meteocat for short , is a joint stock company of the Ministry of Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat of Catalonia , which is responsible for the administration of the meteorological observation and forecast systems in Catalonia .

On March 31, 1921, the Permanent Council of the Mancomunitat de Catalunya approved the decree establishing the Meteorological Service of Catalonia and Eduard Fontserè i Riba was appointed director. The government paid for its operation and installation, and the service was under the scientific supervision of the Institute of Catalan Studies.

The SMC has been compiling a daily weather forecast since 1922 . Since 1927, information on the weather and forecast for Catalonia has been transmitted through Ràdio Barcelona .
