Əfsər Cavansirov

Əfsər Bayram oğlu Cavanşirov (also Äfsär Cavanşirov , Russian Афсар Байрам-оглы Джаванширов * 8. November 1930 in Horadiz, Azerbaijan SSR , Soviet Union ; † 20th May 2005 in Baku , Azerbaijan ) was a Soviet-Azerbaijani composer , music teacher and choir director .

Life

Əfsər Cavansirov lost his parents at an early age. After finishing secondary school in 1948, he attended the Musiqi Texnikum in Baku. Here he learned the string instrument tar in the class of Əmirulla Məmmədbəyov, studied the mugham in the class of Əhməd Bakıxanov (1892–1973) and music theory with Boris Isaakowitsch Seidman (1908–1981). After graduating in 1952, he studied at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory in Baku. Here he attended the composition class of the then director Cövdət Hacıyev and composed two symphonic poems, a sonatina, a string quartet and various romances. In 1958 he graduated. From 1958 until the end of his life he directed the children's choir Bənövşə of the Azerbaijani State Television and Radio. For almost 50 years as the choir's artistic director, the choir's repertoire included international classical choral music and folk music. He also campaigned for the performance of the works of Azerbaijani composers. Important Azerbaijani artists emerged from the children's choir such as Flora Kərimova , Xuraman Qasımova (* 1951), Amalya Pənahova (1945–2018), Ofelya Sənani (* 1941) and the singer Azərin (* 1971). He was awarded the Komsomol Prize of the Republic for his music education work . He was also awarded the honorary title Qabaqcıl maarif xadimi [Leading Educator] from the Ministry of Education. Əfsər Cavanşirov was co-organizer of 4 song festivals in the Azerbaijani SSR. At the song festivals III and IV he was the main choir leader and director of the events. He has been a member of the Azerbaijani Composers' Association since 1967 and is involved in the department of music for children. On May 18, 1972 he was honored by the Decree of Honor of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijani Soviet Socialist Republic Azərbaycan SSR Ali Sovetinin Fəxri fərmanı and on December 1, 1982 he was awarded the honorary title of People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR.

Works (selection)

In addition to seven symphonies, əfsər Cavanşirov composed the symphonic poem Ən əziz ad , the cantata Gəncliyin səsi , the overture for folk instrument orchestra Azərbaycan Vətənim mənim [Azerbaijan, my motherland], a string quartet, romances and choral works. One focus here was on works for children's choirs.
