Cövdət Hacıyev

Əhməd Cövdət Ismayil Hajiyev oğlu ( Russian Ахмед Джевдет Исмаил оглы Гаджиев Ahmed Ismail ogly Djevdet Gadschijew ; also Gadzhiev born June 5, jul. / 18 June  1917 greg. In Şəki ; † 18th January 2002 in Baku ) was an Azerbaijani composer.

Hacıyev studied from 1936 to 1938 in Baku with Üzeyir Hacıbəyov and then in Moscow with Anatoly Alexandrow . From 1941 to 1945 and from 1947 to 1948 he directed the Baku Philharmonic. After studying composition with Dmitri Shostakovich (1945-1947), he taught at the Baku Conservatory , which he directed from 1957 to 1968. With his one-movement Symphony No. 1, composed in 1936, he is considered the author of the first Azerbaijani symphony. Together with his fellow student Qara Qarayev he wrote the opera ( Vätän , UA 1945), which was awarded the Stalin Prize . He also composed a ballet , five symphonies , three symphonic poems , two string quartets and piano pieces.
