Meter wood or grinder is wood that is not processed as timber but into paper wood or firewood . The tree trunks are cut into pieces that are exactly 1 meter long in the forest (usually with a chainsaw ).

use

Either the pieces are sent to industrial processing in a paper mill or are then split with a wood splitter and then piled up as firewood to dry. After the wood is dry, it is often cut into smaller pieces with a rocking saw , which then makes the firewood .

The processing to meter wood has various advantages. The individual (split) pieces are easy to carry by one person and can easily be further processed. The length of the wood makes it easy to stack without the stack becoming unstable and therefore tipping over. Stacked in this way, the wood can dry quickly and well, often without a cover. In addition, the wood is sold in cubic meters , which is easy to measure when stacked pieces are exactly one meter long. Finally, even after splitting and drying, the end user can decide whether the wood should be cut into pieces of 25 cm or 33 cm, which can satisfy the demand for stoves or fireplaces of different sizes.

In the professional sector, meter-long wood is almost always measured with a drawing meter and marked for cutting.
