The Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company ( Metrobank for short ) is a credit institution in the Philippines with headquarters in Makati City .
Metrobank was founded on September 5, 1962 in Binondo , Manila , by George Ty and is currently the second largest bank in the Philippines (as of 2011).
The bank has numerous subsidiaries, including PSBank , and also offers insurance. It operates 760 branches in the Philippines, another 38 overseas and 1,400 ATMs.
The first branch was opened in 1963. In 1970 the first foreign branch was added in Taipei . An office was opened in Hong Kong three years later, and another two years later in Guam .
Metrobank has been listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange since 1981 and acquired a license as a universal bank . The own credit card company Unibancard Corporation (later Metrobank Card Corporation) was founded in 1986.
